Over the years, our exchange program has engaged over 100 international partners from the United States of America. With the support of our visitors and new families each year, we provide our students with practical, hands-on activities.

Major Projects in the Past

Smart Agriculture Monitoring System

Since Northern COSTECH is heavily involved in agriculture, students focus on STEM education to build a simple monitoring system using sensors to track soil moisture and temperature. These systems enable automated irrigation by activating pumps when soil moisture is low — enhancing efficiency, saving water, and boosting farm yields. This innovation combines agriculture and IT, relevant to the RESET Ghana agenda.

Renewable Energy Mini Project (Solar / Wind)

Building small solar panels or wind turbines to generate electricity aligns with GES efforts to promote gender-responsive pedagogy and practical science. It reflects real-world clean energy solutions, letting students measure efficiency and output.

DIY Telescope & Space Observation Project

Students learn to use telescopes to observe the moon and the planetary system, better understanding the practical reality of space. They build simple DIY telescopes using the principles of light refraction, focal length, and magnification — for example, a Keplerian refracting telescope using simple convex lenses — improving their knowledge of basic astronomy and data recording.

Water Filtration & Purification System

Using filtration science, students build low-cost water filtering systems with sand, charcoal, and more. This demonstrates the difference between physical filtration (trapping dirt) and chemical absorption (removing odors and toxins). Students test water quality before and after to identify the differences, helping address real community problems.

Basic Coding & Robotics Training

Students are introduced to Scratch programming, where complex code becomes visual building blocks that make it easy to create games, animations, and interactive stories. Through Arduino projects (LEDs, sensors), they learn how software and hardware work together — a headstart toward building simple robots and automation systems like motion-sensor alarms.

Balloon Rocket & Catapult Engineering

Students learn and practice Newton's laws of motion by building balloon rockets and catapults. They analyze the science behind engineering forces — distance, force, and trajectory — and how it applies to daily life in the community.
